Europe: in Florence the second edition of the prize dedicated to David Sassoli for the best dissertation: awards to two honors students of the Sant'Anna School, who received their degrees from the University of Pisa

The award is an opportunity to bring together the memory of the former president and promote the ideas of the younger generation

On the second anniversary of the death of the former president of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, a ceremony was held at Palazzo del Pegaso, headquarters of the Regional Council of Tuscany, in Florence, to award the 'Best David Sassoli Thesis' prize with the theme 'Europe, Regions and Citizens', aimed at young graduates of universities in Tuscany and now in its second edition. Launched in 2022 by the Regional Council of Tuscany and established by Regional Law 21 of 2023, the prize is intended to commemorate the thought and action of David Sassoli, intersecting his memory with the ideas of the younger generations of Tuscany and with reflections on the relationship between the regions and Europe, and is part of the program of initiatives for the 'Days of Europe, arranged by the Bureau of the Regional Council in agreement with the Council's European Policies and International Relations Committee.

The first position was awarded to Jacopo Battisti, a graduate of the University of Florence. In second place, ex aequo, were Francesco Bortoletto and Pietro Chiarelli, graduates of the University of Florence; Agnese Clementoni Cherubini and Francesco Genoni, honors students of Legal Sciences at the Sant'Anna School, who graduated from the University of Pisa. Picking up the award for Francesco Genoni, who is currently in Bruges to attend the Master of European Law program at the College of Europe, was Marco Macchia, a professor at the University of Pisa.

The committee, which evaluated 18 papers, was chaired by Jacopo Cellini of the European University Institute, and was composed of Benedetta Baldi of the University of Florence; Edoardo Bressanelli of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies; Massimiliano Montini of the University of Siena; Manuela Moschella of the Scuola Normale Superiore; Luca Paladini, of the University for Foreigners of Siena; and Saulle Panizza, of the University of Pisa. The award ceremony was attended by Anna Loretoni, Dean of the Faculty of social sciences of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies.
